Hi! How can I help u?

How to build a Mountain Bike for Dummies.

1) You need to get yourself a bike frame first( 26", 27.5" or 29" )*! Without the core, how are you gonna assemble everything together??!!

*The 26", 27.5" or 29" refers to the frame size suited for the respective wheels size.

2) The second most important part to build your own mountain bike is groupset!

The groupset is what would link all your other parts together too. Groupset enables you to switch gears and braking.

Groupset
This image shows what a full groupset consist of.

3) You have to get yourself WHEELSSSS! Else how can you roll? For wheels wise, you can get first-hand(at bike shops/ Chain Reaction Cycles), get shimano wheels as they are pretty much the standard wheelsets or you can get second hand ones on Togoparts or on Carousell.

*Do take note that you should buy wheels that are compatible with your bike frame, also buy tyres suitable for the wheels too. E.g Your bike frame is a 26" then you buy a 26" wheel.

*Another advice is that before buying any wheels, please do check reviews on that particular model of the wheels to see if its really worth buying else you might just be losing out in terms of vaue.

4) Getting the rest of the parts such as your seatpost, saddle, pedals, handlebars and grips is easy! Just go to established bikeshops like Rodalink, Bike Culture or Bike Settlement just to name some to get those parts there! For grips, I perosnally would recommend ODI grips as they feel grippy even when I have swaety palms and they are comfortable too.

Budget to build a Mountain Bike: ≥ S$450
